NEW EUROPEAN COMMISSION REPORT:2015 Employment and Social Developments Review: Investing in people is key to economic growth
The Employment and Social Developments in Europe (ESDE) 2015 review reveals further positive employment and social developments in the EU. However, despite recent improvements huge disparities still exist between Member States, in terms of economic growth, employment and other key social and labour market indicators. Many of these disparities are linked to an underutilisation of human capital on several fronts.
The 2015 ESDE report looks at ways of tackling these disparities, focusing in particular on job creation, labour market efficiency, social protection modernisation and investment in people.
ERI Conference – Research in education 19-20.10.2015 Warsaw

11th Evaluation Conference – 28-29.09.2015 Krakow
On 28th-29th September AD in Krakow takes place the 11th Evaluation Conference: ‘Evaluation of Cohesion Policy’ Results, challenges, solutions. Due to the International Year of Evaluation 2015, the organizers, i.e. Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, Polish Agency for Enterprise Development and Polish Evaluation Society, prepared a programme which enables deeper insight into the ex-post evaluation of cohesion policies of 2007-2013 in Europe, as well as presentations concerning the challenges and opportunities of the 2014-2020 evaluation.
European Commission proposes new initiative for the long-term unemployed
On 17th Sept European Commission announced another proposal concerning employment and social inclusion. This time the help will be directed to the long-term unemployed group (12 months or more). The number of people in this difficult situation doubled since the 2007, and raised from 6 mln to 12 mln in 2014. Among those 12 mln as much as 60% remains unemployed for 2 years or more.
Supporting continuous vocational education and training (CVET) – CEDEFOP’s Handbook
CEDEFOP states that during the meeting of the European Commission, EU Member States and social partners, which took place in Riga in June 2015, the participants agreed on pursuing the objectives leading to: “more attractive, inclusive, accessible and flexible adult learning”.
In 2014, just over 10% of adults (aged between 25 and 64) participated in lifelong learning, well below the EU’s target benchmark of 15% by 2020.
